Playa Grande & Preciosa, Rio San Juan:
The most beautiful beaches in DR
Although Playa Grande is probably the finest beach on the whole island, as well as being one of the largest in the area at 1 mile (1.6kms) in length, the surrounding area still remains fairly remote and untouched. Located between the towns of Rio San Juan and Cabrera, you’ll have no problem finding your own little piece of paradise on the soft sands that are lapped by the warm Caribbean Sea. Corals abound within the turquoise waters, and with a backdrop of coconut palms, hills, lush vegetation and cliffs this is the perfect place to kick back and relax.
The beach also boasts a couple of traditional Dominican restaurants where you can dine on food such as langoustine and fried fish.
For a totally unspoilt experience, Playa Precosia just around the cliff is completely uncommercialised. Often ignored by visitors, this gorgeous beach is fringed by palm trees and is so picturesque it could have been lifted directly from the pages of a glossy magazine.
Just off the point of Playa Precosia is some of the best surfing and kitesurfing around the whole island.
